Call for Candidates for the 2010 ZAG Board of Directors Election
Two positions on the ZAG Board of Directors will be filled during this year’s ZAG Board of Directors Election. Any ZAG member wishing to be a candidate must file for candidacy no later than September 24, 2010. The election will take place from October 4 – 29, 2010, and the results of the election will be announced on November 6th at the 2010 Annual ZAG Business Meeting in Sevierville Tennessee. A total of nine Board members are allowed to serve on the Board of Directors, per the ZAG By-laws. The candidates with the two highest numbers of votes will fill the vacancies left open by the departure of Laurie Taylor and Steve Fairchild.
Eligibility: ZAG Buyer listed on the most current ZAG membership list
Time Commitment: One to two hours per week, with the fall being the busiest time
Board Planning Sessions: Two Board Planning Sessions take place each year. One session is a weekend in January or February and the second is in August. All travel, meals, and lodging covered by ZAG
ZAG Week: Annual Business meeting and Mixer: Attend ZAG Week and help in the execution of various activities. One night lodging and two meals covered by ZAG.
Length of term: Three years. Candidates elected in November 2010 will serve from Jan 2011 through Dec 2013.
Insurance covering Board members while performing Board duties: ZAG was incorporated as a 501C(6) organization in 2006, and all Board members are covered by Directors and Officers Insurance (D&O), and also Business Owners Insurance.
Opportunities for support as a Board member: Various committees such as Publications, Sponsorship, Membership, Governance, ZAG Week, and more.

OUR MISSION
ZAG is a collection of merchandise buyers for zoos, aquariums and other wildlife-related institutions and attractions. The goals of ZAG are to increase and improve communication between buyers, and to raise the awareness and professionalism of the field within the Zoo and aquarium industry. |
A Little About ZAG!
ZAG is a not-for-profit Zoo and Aquarium buyers group that traces it's humble beginnings to the late 1980's. Started by a group of buyers who met annually at the Smoky Mountain Gift Show, in Gatlinburg, TN. These informal meetings proved to be great opportunities to share ideas, and resulted in ongoing lines of communication between buyers in the Zoo and Aquarium gift industry. Due to the wealth of information shared at these annual "get-togethers" for buyers, ZAG meetings at The Smoky Mountain Gift Show, and now The International Gift Exposition in the Smokies have continued to grow in popularity.
In the past few years ZAG has undergone phenomenal growth, with its membership surpassing 200 buyers, and is currently supported by over 50 sponsors. Recent ZAG projects include the publication of ZAG newsletters, the development of a website, and also a concerted effort to host annual meetings that produce valuable networking tools for our members. The development of regional meetings throughout the country and incorporation are among a few of the new projects that are currently being worked on by members of ZAG.
Now the rest is up to you! We need active members to help us grow this worthwhile organization for the mutual benefit of our zoos and aquariums.
